How to Host a Murder Dinner

Oh, Sunday. What a nice day to relax and catch up on the blog. Lately, I have been really busy and thus the blog has fallen out of the picture. So today while my boys are sleeping, I am hoping to catch up a bit!

Friday night Rob and I hosted a Murder Mystery Dinner. It was called "The Last Train to Paris" and is set in the 1940's during WWII when the French were leaving Paris because they were afraid the German troops were going to enter. It takes place on a train which made it have an interesting twist. Rob painted a train station sign and when people arrived at the door we turned off all the lights and welcomed them to the station with a lantern. We had recorded the sounds of the train that passes behind our house and played the train noises when the guests were arriving. Hopefully they felt like they were in a train station getting ready to board their train!!

There were 4 couples including Rob and I. We all dressed according to our character that was assigned. It was so fun to see everyone come in all decked out. I guess I didn't think people would get into it as much as they did. But the guests came with props and accents!
Reed was "The Duke" and Andrea was "Princess Idelle" (Both French with fabulous accents)
Rachel was "Belinda Screete" a fashionable American dressmaker living in Paris and Harvey was "Weyland" a captain in the British air force
Aaron was "Khover" a British private spy and Ali was "Mary" an American journalist covering the war in Paris
Rob was "Mal" an American mobster and I was "Barbra" a French heir to a perfume company
We had a great time with the game while eating the whole night! We stayed with the French theme and cooked Chicken Cordon Bleu with long-grain wild rice. Rob and I found a great cordon bleu recipe on allrecipes.com. It has a wonderful creamy sauce that you could also put on veges or whatever else you are serving. Ali and Aaron brought a delicious appetizer of crepes with turkey, cheese, and lettuce rolled up as pinwheels. They were so good and a great way to start the game and dinner. Andrea and Reed cooked green beans and red peppers with cashews and rolls- once again delicious! And to top off the night Rachel and Harvey made a scrumptious French chocolate dessert with cream and raspberry topping. And to drink, plenty of Martinelli's Sparking Cider to go around! It was all too good and of course I was too busy enjoying the food and concentrating on the facts of the murder mystery that I didn't snap any photos of this fabulous dinner. Just take my word for it! It was a really fun night. I dare to say that good times were had by all. Everyone really got into the game and acted their parts well. It was a good way to celebrate Halloween!
