Happy Halloween

Oh isn't Halloween so much fun? It is a great day to dress however you please and you can't be judged for it. No I didn't dress up in a true costume, just the same old maternity clothes that I am hoping to be done with one day soon! But I was at the grocery store and saw this guy stocking shelves and he was dressed in black Catholic Priest attire. I wasn't thinking that it was Halloween and I was a bit confused why a Priest was stocking the shelves at the grocery store. After I passed him and I was at the end of the aisle, I realized it was Halloween and it was all just a costume.

Well speaking of Priests or Bishops for that matter, we had dinner Halloween night at our Bishop's house. Harvey (our bishop) did a fabulous job decorating their home for Halloween. I truly felt like I was at Disneyland in the Haunted Mansion with eerie pictures, ripped curtains, creepy music, and candles. It was a great ambiance for the occasion. I should have taken pictures so you could really see how cool it was. The Knightons and Reed & Olivia also came to partake of some good food - Reed's delicious chili, my out-of-the-box cornbread, Rachel's scrumptious stuffed mushrooms, and JoAnn's fabulous pumpkin cheesecake. It was a yummy meal with trick-or-treating to follow. But of course first we had to have a photo moment with the kids. It is always entertaining when you are trying to get 5 kids to all cooperate at the same time! Here are the victims - Grant as Super Why, Evan & Ben as Monkeys, Lauren as Princess Presto, and Olivia as a Ballerina. The Monkey Boys - Evan & Ben (No the matching costumes weren't planned but they looked really cute!) Rachel & Ella as a Mermaid and JoAnn & Amelia as a Banana. Amelia is Ben's sister so her cute banana costume went along with Ben being a monkey! Monkey Evan or as he referred to himself at times, Curious George! Last year Evan went trick-or-treating to 2 houses. He didn't get the whole Halloween thing. But this year he actually got the concept and really enjoyed it. We went trick-or-treating for about 2 blocks and Evan loved running to the houses with the other kids to say "trick-or-treat" and he even remembered his manners some of the time and said thank you. Toward the end his bucket was getting full and heavy so Evan had Rob carry not only the bucket but himself also! Evan learned the art of dumping out his candy on the floor and relishing in all of its goodness from the older kids. So when we got home Evan loved dumping his candy out and examining it. Evan's favorite candy was the suckers. He layed them aside and counted them, there were 7 of them! We had one tired, but happy boy by the end of the night!

So, how long until Evan hit the sugar-high meltdown? My kids hit it about 2:00 the next day. Last night we had a party with the girls. Justin rented them a movie, and we gave them their halloween baskets, and told them to go for it. They did pretty good--we just want to get rid of it (mostly, so we don't have to keep sneaking their goodies)!

I love how Evan is sorting his candy out - Hadley did the same thing. Counting, re-counting and sorting and re-sorting. Oddly enough I remember doing the same thing as a kid.

What nice grandmas! I love packages in the mail! I painted the bathroom the "guest" bathrooom upstairs. It is a blue/gray color. I like it. Have you guys decided on a name for the baby yet?
