It has been one week since Evan decided that an afternoon nap was just not on his agenda. I have known this day would come eventually and have feared & dreaded it. But surprisingly, it really isn't bad! I do miss my "alone" time in the middle of the day for me to recharge, but the likelyhood of both Lily and Evan sleeping at the same time wasn't ever very good. I do make Evan have some quiet time for both of our sakes. Though I think this napless idea is working out great because now Evan is exhausted at night and falls to sleep within minutes. Whereas before it was taking him a good hour or hour & a half to fall asleep. Evan is asleep by 7 or 7:30pm and Rob & I have the rest of the evening to ourselves! And Evan is getting up about the same time in the morning, sometimes a half hour earlier. This deal works in all of our favors.
Even though Evan has been napless I still ask him every afternoon if he wants to take a nap. I didn't think he would give up his naps cold-turkey. I thought he may go to a nap every other day. I figure one day he may take a nap again especially when it warms up outside and he is running around more.
This was our conversation a few days ago:
Me - "Evan, should we go take a nap?"
Evan - "Mom, you can go upstairs and take a nap."
Me - "Are you going to take a nap with me?"
Evan - "No, I am going to play trains."
Me - "What will I do with Lily."
Evan - "She can watch me play."
Me - "What if she cries."
Evan - "She will be happy watching me play. Go take a nap Mom ."
I am glad Evan has it all under control!

Guess Evan's really growing up! But it's nice you and Rob can enjoy more time in the evening together now. Happy Valentine's Day!
may I recommend as an alternative to "the nap" - "taking a rest" - I still make these mandatory for Hadley a few times a week . . . :)
Good luck!
Mandy, nice update on the blog. It is so fun to see pictures of all of you. We are excited to see you in just a few more weeks. Love, Mom
Oh Mandy, I am in the exact same boat. Sydney just decided she is above taking a nap too. At first I fought it. But now, like you say...she's going to bed SO much earlier and Marc and I actually get to spend a little quiet time together. As for Mitchell, no one believes me, but he sleeps from 6pm to 7 am - EVERY NIGHT! He truly is an angel baby!
