June 20th was a big day. We packed up our house in Minneapolis and started driving to Utah, Lily turned 7 months old, and Lily started crawling! It was one busy, crazy day. Thanks to all of you who helped with our move whether it was physically moving our "junk", taking some of our junk off of our hands, watching my kids, letting us borrow your carpet cleaner, sending us off with a sweet road trip bag, moral support, etc. We have the best friends and it hasn't been easy saying goodbye to them. I wish they could all just move with us!
We took 3 days to drive from Minneapolis to Salt Lake City. Our first night we spent in Sioux Falls, South Dakota then the next day drove the entire length of South Dakota to Rapid City. Really nothing exciting to report from our drive except we got gas in Mitchell which is where one of Rob's classmates will be living and practicing orthodontics. Also, we tried for over an hour to find a place to eat. It had nothing to do with being indecisive and all to do with the fact that there literally was no where to obtain food! We stopped in Draper, SD because there was a sign that said there was food off that exit. So come to find out there was food available in a casino and they wouldn't let us in because we had kids with us! Can you believe we were wanting to eat in this casino shack? We were obviously desperate for food at this point!

Here is a picture of Draper, South Dakota. It reminded me a lot of what Draper, Utah use to look like when I was growing up!

We stayed at the coolest hotel in Rapid City. It had an indoor water park that kept Evan entertained forever. It was a Pirate theme with this huge Pirate Ship that had multiple slides and water spraying everywhere.

Rob was entertained as well!

Lily wasn't sure what to think of it all! But she sure made a fashion statement in her swimsuit!

Evan loved to go on his belly so that the water didn't spray in his eyes!

Evan showed me how to go down the shipwrecked boat slide.

Evan jumping into the pool. Each time I would make him get his face a little bit more wet to try to desensitize him to the idea of water in his eyes! It didn't really work! There were 2 big adult waterslides that Rob and I took turns going down. They were so fast that I hit my head!

Rob showing off his muscles......

So of course Evan had to try it out also. Though he found it more fun to cover the water sprayer and then release so the water would spray far!

Can you tell Evan had a blast? It was hard to pull him away from the water park!

The next day we headed to the big city of Lander, Wyoming. Rob has a good friend who was a classmate in dental school who is a dentist in Lander. On our way to Lander we drove past Mount Rushmore. Here is the first view we saw of Mount Rushmore once we turned a corner on the highway.

It was definitely a Kodak Moment so we jumped out of the car and smiled for the camera. Though Lily didn't get the memo to keep her eyes open!

A closer view - Washington, Jefferson, Teddy Roosevelt, and Lincoln.

A different angle.

After you pass Mount Rushmore you turn the corner and you get to see a great profile of George!

I was glad we stopped to see Mount Rushmore. It really wasn't too far out of our way and it is a national landmark if nothing else. Would I make a point to go see it for a vacation? No, but if you are in the area check it out.
We didn't take any pictures in Lander. Why you ask? Well we were just having too much fun catching up with Colton. Though it was sad that all of Colton's family was in Utah except his oldest son, Jordan. But we really enjoyed hearing about what has been going on in their lives and seeing Colton's office. We also loved reminiscing about Boston, especially the Red Sox! Jordan is a HUGE fan! Colton was very gracious to let us stay at his house even though it is being remodeled. He even let Rob and I sleep in his bed!
The next morning we drove to our new home.....

We wish that was our backyard! We arrived in Salt Lake City and my family was at my grandma's neighbor's house swimming. Rob and I were too tired to swim but Evan had all of his energy from being contained in the car and my siblings were nice to swim with him. Michael took Evan down the slide and held him up so he didn't go under the water. I was amazed at how high Michael held Evan up. All of those hours at the gym paid off!

Evan also went down the slide on this floaty and it held him upright!

My sister Stephanie (who is getting married tomorrow!) and Evan driving his wave runner!

We enjoy road trips but are glad that this one is over! Now back to reality!

Now that is no ordinary swimming pool. What a fun pool, and how nice to have the connections that make it possible for you to enjoy.
