Once I started feeling sick back in March, Evan's bedtime went out the window. I would just bring Evan up to bed around 10 pm when I was going to bed. It was too much work walking upstairs to put Evan to bed then an hour or so later for myself to go to bed. Then summer hit and we just had too much fun outside to try to move Evan's bedtime back to a decent hour. So now that it is getting dark at 8pm and I am feeling better, we are trying to get Evan back to an earlier bedtime. We have moved up to 9:30 pm so there has been some progress, but the place where the most progress has been made is that Evan is actually staying in his bed! Oh glorious day!! When I was feeling sick, a lot of the time Evan would fall asleep in my bed with me and then when Rob came to bed Rob would move him into his own bed. Then summer hit and it was so hot in Evan's room so we moved his bed into our room. We have an air conditioner unit in our room that somehow doesn't seem to move the cool air outside of our room into the other 2 bedrooms. So Evan was use to falling asleep in his bed but in mom and dad's room. One week ago we moved Evan's bed back into his room and have been working on him going to sleep "all by mineself" as Evan puts it and not getting out of bed to visit mom and dad downstairs.

His incentive was this Henry sticker chart. If Evan stayed in bed and went to sleep without any help from us, then he would get a sticker the next morning. After 5 stickers, we would take him to the store and buy him the train Henry, who he has been wanting for a long time. Rob and I weren't quite sure if Evan would full get it, but he did and it worked so well. Saturday morning Evan received his 5th sticker and announced "I get Henry!". He was so proud of himself. We went to Toys 'R Us and Evan ran right to where the trains are and picked up Henry. Multiple times a day Evan tells us what he did to get Henry - "I go night-night all by mineself, no mom or daddy lay, stay in bed, I wake up and I get Henry!". I don't know who is happier - Evan to be the owner of Henry or his parents now that Evan is going to sleep so easily. Now we just need to continue to work on moving Evan's bedtime earlier.

Nice work Evan!
Evan we are so proud of you! Horray for Evan and Henry!
Miss you, Love Grandma Cindy
When we saw the 'praying like Enos', I thought he'd topped the cute charts for the week - but my oh my, he never ceases to amaze us - I think it's just the 'two year-old boy cute phase' they go through 'cause everyday I think Tay just does & says the cutest things too!
We LOVE the Henry story and say "Congrats" to you, Evan! Now it's on to Arthur!!
Hooray! Good Job Evan!!
Hmmm...trains and a chart. Great idea. We were using donuts (he loves them and got one the following morning if he stayed in bed "all night long"). Then one night he showed up next to my side at 9:30 and announced, "Mom, I just don't want a donut anymore." We had to move on to negative reinforcement after that (threatening lights out...his worst nightmare!).
