This afternoon Evan and I met some of our friends-Rachel, Lauren, Grant, and Ella at our city's train show and ice cream social. They opened up the old train depot and inside you could view the old ticket booth where you could buy tickets for ice cream or lemonade. You could also see old train memorabilia, telegraph machine, and old benches where the passengers waited for their train. Here Evan, Grant, & Lauren are waiting on the benches, not for a train but for their ice cream!

They also had two electric trains set up on a large track that the kids could watch. Outside you could pay with your tickets to get ice cream or lemonade. The kids ate ice cream and as you can see Evan thoroughly enjoyed his! This was Evan's first real ice cream cone. Usually he just eats it out of a bowl.

There is a wooden train play structure outside that the kids enjoyed playing on. The kids had fun but there were a few disappointments. Evan was a bit disappointed because there was suppose to be a real train that you could climb aboard and tour inside, but I guess the timing didn't work out. Lauren and Grant were disappointed that Sparky the fire dog and McGruff the crime dog weren't at the park when we were there. But all the kids did get to take turns "driving" a real firetruck.
If you look really closely you can see Evan's little face behind the wheel.

Evan and Grant found a pile of ice that had been dumped out and decided to play a game of throw the ice. Those two boys stayed busy for a good 30 minutes throwing the ice on the cement and occasionally at each other. Even though some of the planned events didn't work out, we still had a good time outside enjoying the nice fall weather with friends.
