Ouchie = Bean Sucker

I haven't blogged in awhile because truthfully nothing that exciting has been happening around here. It has actually been a lot like groundhog day in that everyday I do the dishes, change diapers, feed the little man, run errands, and everyday it has been really dreary and rainy. Though last Monday was a bit different in that Rob was able to chew!! It is amazing how much faster and the variety of foods you can eat when you can chew! Rob hasn't tried any steak or nuts, mainly sticking to the softer stuff for now. Also in the news, Evan got a haircut last week. Or should I say Rob and I gave Evan a haircut. As happy as I am that the hot and humid days are behind us, Evan's hair isn't so happy to see the humidity decrease. The front and top of his hair has gone pretty straight with just a bit of a wave. Thus his hair has been in his face and driving him crazy. Though I think it was bothering Rob more! First Rob took some off the front, top and sides. Then Evan had a sweet mullet with a huge bushy fro in the back so I took some off the back. Good thing Evan's hair isn't straight because you would be able to tell how uneven it is! Here is a picture of him with his new hairdo. Not the greatest pic but since Evan is asleep right now I can't take another one. Evan definitely looks more grown up with his short do.Now onto the title of the post. Evan had his flu shot this evening and wasn't very happy about the whole ordeal especially when I pulled his pants to his knees to allow the nurse to get to his thigh. Unlike most children, Evan doesn't like to be naked. He always has to be fully clothed. He won't even go swimming without a swim shirt on! Onto the story... Evan let out a huge scream as the nurse was injecting the shot and cried for 15 seconds after until I reminded him that he got a sucker at the front desk when we walk out of the clinic. This made Evan stop crying immediately and he went and picked a red tootsie pop. This was Evan's first official sucker and he was so proud of himself! When his dad got home, Evan was still sucking on the sucker and had to show it off to him. Evan told the whole story of how he got an "ouchie right here", pointing to his left thigh and then reenacted him crying (sour-looking face included) and then showed the sucker - his prize for "being a good boy". Shortly after Rob and I look over at Evan and he had stuck his sucker in the bean table and was trying to pull the beans off. How gross! I don't want to know what kind of germs live in there! Needless to say, I had to wash off a few layers of the sucker because Evan just wouldn't let it go yet!

Hey! I was beginning to wonder if Rob wouldn't let you post 'til someone commented on his 'less puffiness'. But yea for him that he can chew! You look good, bro.
And yea for Evan! I remember the last time I took the kids for shots - Whitney is the dramatic one, and Tay let out a mild "Ouch", accentuating the "u". Kids are so funny, esp when the sadness is conditioned by the possibility of a treat! (BTW, I like the look of the bean sucker.)
I'm doing better, Mandy, thanks for asking. I keep thinking about you, and how you're so close! We are so excited and can't wait for the call - Evan saying something similar to what Whitney said about Tay, maybe - "She's out!" We love you.

Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention that we like the haircut - you guys must have a flowbee you didn't mention. ;) Really, he looks so handsome, and you're right - older.

very cute hair cut! I was wondering why Evan was wearing his swim shirt even in the indoor pool. Its good he likes swimming as much as he does with all the problems that come with swimming...not having as much clothing on, water in the eyes...etc. Hope you are feeling well!

That's a cute story. I wouldn't worry too much about the germs...Ethan picked a piece of fruit off the floor of the grocery store this week (that he had just dropped) and popped it in his mouth before I could stop him. Another woman witnessed it. I thought she was going to gag. What can you do?

Love the haircut!

I think it's time to shave the kid's head! I'm sure he would love it.
