We celebrated Evan's birthday tonight. His real birthday is December 24th, but we will be flying to Utah that day so we decided to celebrate early. Since my parents are in town we figured this would be a good time to celebrate. Evan has been talking about his birthday for months. What he wanted were a cake with candles, balloons, and some new trains. How simple it is to please a (almost) 3-year-old. My mom made a chocolate cake with train tracks out of licorice strings around it. Then placed some trains on the track.

Evan blew out his candles three times! After the first time he wanted to do it again, and again.

Evan remembered that on Rob's birthday after the candles were blown out he licked the end of the candle that was in the cake. So after his third time blowing out the candles, Evan picked up one of the candles and stuck the wick end of the candle in his mouth! Yuck! I don't think Evan would have thought twice about it but we all reacted in disgust! Evan decided he wanted to taste the train tracks and thought it would be fun to floss his teeth with it. Oh, the son of a dentist!

Of course the balloons had to be Thomas the Tank Engine. Look at Mr E's reaction -Priceless!

Evan would have been fine with just the cake, candles, and balloons, but he did get a few presents also. His favorite was the Thomas Gold Mine Mountain set that contained Cranky the Crane and Salty the train.
So if you ask Evan how old he is and he says three, just play along with it until he really turns 3. Happy Early Birthday E-Man!
